Emma Raducanu secured a commanding first-round win over Japanese wildcard Sayaka Ishii, ranked 188th in the world, at the Miami Open.
This victory comes after a difficult period for Raducanu, including a stalking incident, injuries, and a first-round exit at Indian Wells.
Raducanu recently ended her trial with coach Vladimir Platenik after just one match and is currently supported by interim coaches Jane O’Donoghue and Colin Beecher.
She expressed pride in her performance, emphasizing her focus and competitiveness, which she felt had been lacking in recent months.
Raducanu now faces eighth seed Emma Navarro, a strong opponent in good form, in the second round on Friday.
