EU Court Upholds Qualcomm Antitrust Fine, Reduces It Slightly

Qualcomm's appeal largely rejected, with fine trimmed to 238.7 million euros for predatory pricing practices.

The European Union's General Court upheld most of the 2019 antitrust fine against Qualcomm, reducing it from 242 million euros to 238.7 million euros.
Qualcomm was accused of selling 3G baseband chipsets below cost between 2009 and 2011 to drive competitor Icera out of the market.
The court found that Qualcomm's arguments against the fine were largely unfounded, except for a plea regarding the calculation of the fine amount.
Qualcomm maintains that it has always complied with European competition laws and disagrees with the court's judgment.
This case is separate from a 2022 decision where Qualcomm successfully overturned a $1.23 billion fine for allegedly bribing Apple.
