Ex-Navy Sailor Pleads Guilty to Plotting Attack on Naval Station Great Lakes

Xuanyu Harry Pang admitted to conspiring with undercover agents posing as Iranian operatives to target the Illinois base in retaliation for Qasem Soleimani's death.

Xuanyu Harry Pang, 38, pleaded guilty to federal charges for planning an attack on Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois in 2022.
The plot was allegedly intended to avenge the 2020 death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, killed by a U.S. airstrike.
Pang communicated with an individual in Colombia and undercover FBI agents posing as affiliates of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
He provided surveillance materials, military uniforms, and a phone intended for use as a detonator during meetings in Chicago and Lake Bluff.
Pang, detained without bond, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison with sentencing scheduled for May 2025.
