Ex-Ohio officer indicted for murder of unarmed Black man shot in bed

Former Columbus police officer Ricky Anderson was indicted on murder and reckless homicide charges for fatally shooting Donovan Lewis, a 20-year-old Black man, while serving a warrant at Lewis's home.
Lewis was unarmed and lying in bed when Anderson immediately fired upon opening the bedroom door, as seen on released bodycam footage.
The August 2022 shooting led to protests and renewed scrutiny of police violence against Black civilians in Columbus.
Anderson had a history of excessive force complaints over his 30-year career before retiring after the shooting.
Lewis's family filed a civil suit questioning why it took nearly a year for Anderson to be charged despite the video evidence.
