FAA Investigates Green Laser Strikes on Four Commercial Flights Near Boston

Incidents Mark a Rise in Laser Hazards, with Over 10,000 Reported This Year

Four commercial flights near Boston reported being illuminated by a green laser on Monday and Tuesday, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The flights involved were Alaska Airlines Flight 536, JetBlue Flight 988, Delta Air Lines Flight 803, and Alaska Airlines Flight 836.
Shining lasers at aircraft is a federal crime, with fines of up to $11,000 per violation and up to $30,800 for multiple incidents.
In 2021, the FAA issued $120,000 in fines for laser strikes, and pilots reported about 9,500 laser strikes to the FAA.
So far this year, there have been 10,346 laser hazard incidents, according to data from the Department of Transportation.
