Rakesh Tikait, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader, was involved in a car accident on the Meerpur Bypass in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, when a nilgai collided with his vehicle.
The accident occurred on Friday evening, March 14, 2025, as Tikait was returning from a Holi ceremony in his Fortuner car.
Tikait and other passengers escaped major injuries due to the timely deployment of airbags; one individual sustained minor injuries for not wearing a seatbelt.
Tikait emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts and maintaining safe driving speeds, urging the public to prioritize road safety.
Local officials, including Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Agarwal and MP Harendra Singh Malik, visited Tikait's residence to ensure his well-being following the incident.
