Finland Builds Steel Fence Along Russian Border to Curb Migration, Boost Security

Finland is constructing a steel mesh fence covering 200 km of its border with Russia to guard against illegal immigration.
The fence is not meant to stop invasion but has surveillance equipment and provides time for authorities to react.
Finland only detected 30 illegal crossings last year while Russia stopped 800 attempts to enter Finland.
The fence will cost 380 million euros and be completed in 2026.
Finland's fence construction follows Russia's 2014 invasion of Ukraine and Finlands's recent joining of NATO.
