Florida bans all land purchases by Chinese citizens and companies citing national security concerns

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation banning Chinese citizens from purchasing land in Florida unless they are also a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • The ban is due to concerns about the CCP making a "concerted effort to acquire farmland throughout the United States," including in Florida.
  • The bill prevents foreign countries of concern and their officers from buying farmland and property within 10 miles of a military installation or critical infrastructure facility.
  • No one connected with the Chinese government or the CCP is allowed to purchase real estate in Florida under the bill, nor can anyone who is "domiciled" in China and not a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • The bill also expands Florida's government device ban on TikTok and other foreign country of concern-created, maintained or owned apps, and bans state colleges and universities from accepting gifts from and making agreements with foreign countries of concern.
