Former IS Fighter Sentenced to Eight Years for Planned Terror Attack in Duisburg

Tarik S., previously convicted in 2017 for IS involvement, was found guilty of planning a terrorist attack targeting a pro-Israel demonstration in 2023.
The Duisburg court determined he intended to use a truck to kill demonstrators, viewing them as 'unbelievers.'
His plot was uncovered through communications with an undercover agent from the Moroccan intelligence service, whom he believed to be an IS member.
Despite participating in a deradicalization program after his earlier prison term, the court concluded he never abandoned IS ideology and had resumed extremist activities.
The eight-year sentence reflects his prior convictions and failed efforts to reform, as well as his attempts to recruit fellow inmates to IS beliefs while in custody.
