Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte Arrives in Netherlands for War Crimes Tribunal

Rodrigo Duterte faces charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court for his role in thousands of extrajudicial killings during his anti-drug campaign.

Rodrigo Duterte, 79, was arrested in Manila and transported to the Netherlands under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
The ICC accuses Duterte of crimes against humanity, including responsibility for up to 30,000 extrajudicial killings during his presidency and tenure as Davao mayor.
Duterte's anti-drug campaign, conducted between 2016 and 2022, allegedly involved police killings of suspected drug offenders without due process.
He is now detained at the ICC's detention center in Scheveningen, where he will undergo medical examination and await court proceedings.
The Philippines withdrew from the ICC in 2019, but the court retains jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed before the withdrawal took effect.
