Overview

• Staff Sgt. Eugene Darrigan was interred with full military honors in Wappingers Falls, New York, on May 24, 2025, and 2nd Lt. Thomas Kelly was laid to rest in Livermore, California, on Memorial Day.
• 1st Lt. Herbert Tennyson’s remains are scheduled for burial on June 27 in Wichita, Kansas, and 2nd Lt. Donald Sheppick will be interred in Coal Center, Pennsylvania, in the coming months.
• Project Recover located the B-24 wreckage in 2017 at a depth of roughly 200 feet off Papua New Guinea and handed over the site to a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency-led Navy dive team in 2023.
• DPAA analysis of dog tags, personal effects and DNA led to the official accounting of Darrigan, Kelly, Tennyson and Sheppick in September 2024.
• The long-standing effort was driven by Scott Althaus’s research beginning in 2013 and involved collaboration among families, Project Recover and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
