Fran McCaffery's son cited in fatal car crash that killed off-duty soldier

Iowa City police cited Fran McCaffery's 16-year-old son, Jack, with a simple misdemeanor in connection with the car accident.
Jack McCaffery was driving away from school when he struck and killed Sgt. Corey Hite, an off-duty Iowa National Guard soldier, who was jogging.
Jack was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, a misdemeanor resulting in a death punishable by a $1,000 fine and license suspension.
The McCaffery family said it was an unavoidable accident with no evidence of distraction, and expressed condolences to Hite's family.
