France to Adjust Off-Peak Electricity Hours Starting November 2025

The changes aim to align off-peak hours with solar energy production and evolving consumption patterns, impacting 11 million households by 2027.

  • The Commission de régulation de l'énergie (CRE) will shift off-peak electricity hours to align with periods of abundant solar energy, particularly during the afternoon in summer months.
  • The new off-peak schedule will start rolling out on November 1, 2025, with full implementation expected by the end of 2027.
  • Approximately 11 million of the 14.5 million households on off-peak contracts will see changes, while 3.5 million households with already optimized schedules will remain unaffected.
  • Consumers will retain eight off-peak hours daily, with five hours at night and up to three hours during the day, varying between summer and winter periods.
  • The changes are designed to reduce electricity costs during off-peak hours and enhance grid stability by better matching supply and demand patterns.
