Francoise Bornet, Subject of Iconic 'Paris Kiss' Photo, Dies at 93

Bornet, who was captured in a staged kiss by photographer Robert Doisneau in 1950, sold an original signed copy of the photo for €150,000 in 2005.

Francoise Bornet, the woman featured in the iconic photograph 'The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville' by Robert Doisneau, has died at the age of 93.
The photograph, taken in 1950, became a global phenomenon in the 1980s when it was republished as a poster.
The image was staged by Doisneau, who had spotted Bornet and her then-boyfriend, Jacques Carteaud, kissing in a cafe and asked them to recreate the scene for his camera.
In 2005, Bornet sold an original copy of the photograph, signed by Doisneau, at auction for €150,000 (£130,000).
Bornet and Carteaud separated shortly after the photograph was taken, and both went on to have separate careers.
