Overview

  • The Frankfurt Zoo has introduced Mandala and Rasmi, two Sumatran tiger cubs born on February 20, to the public in their indoor exhibit, 'Katzendschungel.'
  • The cubs, named by the Zoologische Gesellschaft Frankfurt (ZGF), are a male and female, weighing between 8–10 kg, and are displayed daily from 9:00 to 13:00.
  • This marks the second successful litter for 11-year-old Cinta and 15-year-old Emas, a significant achievement given their senior age for tigers.
  • Sumatran tigers are critically endangered, with only 287 in zoos globally and an estimated 300–400 remaining in the wild, threatened by habitat destruction and poaching.
  • The cubs will remain in Frankfurt for 9–12 months before being relocated to other zoos under international breeding guidelines, following vaccinations and swim training.
