Gene Hackman, Wife, and Dog's Causes of Death Revealed Following Investigation

The actor and his wife died of natural causes weeks apart, while their dog succumbed to starvation and dehydration in their New Mexico home.

Gene Hackman, 95, died of heart disease with Alzheimer's as a contributing factor, while his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, died earlier from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare rodent-borne illness.
Their dog, Zinna, a 12-year-old kelpie mix, was found deceased in a crate and likely died of dehydration and starvation, according to a veterinary necropsy report.
Investigators believe Arakawa died on February 11, with Hackman passing a week later, possibly unaware of his wife's death due to his advanced Alzheimer's disease.
Two surviving dogs, Bear and Nikita, were found alive and roaming the property; one of them helped first responders locate Hackman's body in the home.
The couple's estate is seeking to block the public release of autopsy and investigative reports, citing privacy concerns and their long history of leading a private life.
