Parra's appointment is part of a larger personnel shakeup within the Nationals' staff, following a fourth consecutive last-place finish in the NL East.
Other changes include Miguel Cairo coming in as bench coach, Ricky Gutierrez shifting to third base coach, and Chris Johnson being hired as an assistant hitting coach.
General manager Mike Rizzo, who has been leading the Nationals since 2007, and manager Dave Martinez, both received fresh contracts during the season as part of ongoing attempts to strengthen the roster.
