German Authorities Dismantle International Drug Trafficking Ring

Seven arrests made as investigators uncover 2.2 tons of cannabis smuggled from Spain to Germany using logistics companies.

  • The operation led by the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) targeted a drug ring responsible for smuggling 2.2 tons of cannabis and other substances into Germany between 2022 and 2024.
  • The group used two major logistics companies to conceal drugs within legal shipments transported from Spain to Germany, with a black market value estimated at €6–8 million.
  • A 26-year-old alleged ringleader was arrested in Alicante, Spain, during a routine traffic stop, while seven other suspects were detained in raids across Hannover, Berlin, and Braunschweig.
  • Authorities seized 370 kilograms of marijuana, hashish, and other drugs in earlier operations, along with weapons, cash, and digital evidence during recent searches.
  • The group also attempted to establish a large marijuana plantation in Holzminden, Germany, which was destroyed by a fire in September 2024 before it could become operational.
