• Mehr Demokratie, Netzwerk Steuergerechtigkeit and the Bund der Steuerzahler organized an online survey with 18,000 participants who proposed over 2,000 ideas and cast 330,000 votes.
• Survey respondents showed broad support for higher taxes on large private fortunes and international corporations and failed to reach consensus on universal basic income or climate-related levies.
• Participants also backed reducing tax advantages for politicians and civil servants and demanded greater transparency in state expenditures.
• A six-day citizen council will convene in Erfurt in June to refine the survey’s top proposals into three or four focused reform recommendations.
• Major parties SPD and Linke have welcomed the initiative’s direction; the CDU/CSU has not issued a comment.
