German Police Conduct Raids on Suspected Hamas and Samidoun Properties

The raids follow a formal ban on any activity by or in support of the groups, as Germany continues its crackdown on groups supporting antisemitism.

  • German police have conducted raids on properties connected to suspected Hamas and Samidoun activity across four federal states, including Berlin, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Schleswig-Holstein.
  • The German government implemented a ban on any activity by or in support of Hamas and Samidoun on November 2, following a celebration in Berlin of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
  • Germany’s domestic intelligence service estimates that Hamas has around 450 members in the country, whose activities range from expressions of sympathy and propaganda activities to financing and fundraising activities to strengthen the organization abroad.
  • German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said that by banning Hamas and Samidoun in Germany, they have sent a clear signal that they will not tolerate any glorification or support of Hamas’ barbaric terror against Israel.
  • Germany has been clamping down on groups supporting antisemitism in the wake of the latest Israel-Hamas war, with police recently raiding the homes of 17 people in Bavaria who were accused of spreading antisemitic hate speech and threats targeting Jews online.
