Overview

  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany has removed all geographic limits on weapons supplied to Ukraine, matching prior decisions by the US, UK and France.
  • Ukraine is now authorized to strike Russian military positions including bases, naval facilities, oil refineries and other industrial sites deep inside Russian territory.
  • Western systems such as Britain’s Storm Shadow, France’s Scalp and US-made ATACMS can be employed without distance restrictions, potentially reaching targets in regions like Bryansk and Kursk.
  • Although not officially confirmed, analysts believe Germany may have provided Taurus cruise missiles with bunker-busting warheads capable of precision strikes up to 500 km away.
  • On the ground, Russian forces maintain offensive momentum, having seized four border villages in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region in recent days.
