Germany orders closure of majority of Russian consulates in retaliation

Germany has told Russia to close four out of five consulates in Germany
This is in response to Moscow setting a limit for the number of German embassy staff in Russia
Russia will decide which four consulates to close and which one to keep open
Germany will have to shut three consulates in Russia by November
The move reflects a new low in relations between Moscow and Berlin since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022
