Ghanaian Footballer Raphael Dwamena Dies After Collapsing During Match

28-year-old Striker with History of Heart Problems was Leading Scorer in Albanian Super League

Raphael Dwamena, a 28-year-old Ghanaian footballer, collapsed and died during a match in the Albanian Super League while playing for KF Egnatia.
Dwamena was the leading scorer in the Albanian league this season with nine goals and had represented Ghana internationally, earning nine caps and scoring two goals.
The player had a history of heart problems, having collapsed during a match in Austria in 2021, after which he reportedly underwent a heart operation and had an automatic defibrillator implanted.
Despite his health issues, Dwamena continued his football career, playing for clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Denmark, and was a former youth player at Red Bull Salzburg.
The Albanian Football Federation, the Ghana Football Association, and several of Dwamena's former clubs, including Levante and Real Zaragoza, have expressed their condolences and paid tribute to the player.
