Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Charged with Fourth Murder

DNA Evidence Links Rex Heuermann's Family to Victims

Suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has been charged with a fourth murder, that of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, due to advances in DNA testing.
DNA matches were found between samples taken from the victims and Heuermann's family, specifically his daughter Victoria Heuermann and wife Asa Ellerup.
Victoria's DNA was found on a discarded drink can and matched a sample from victim Amber Costello, while Asa's hair was found on a belt used to restrain Brainard-Barnes.
Heuermann was under surveillance for over a year before his arrest outside his Manhattan architecture firm.
Heuermann faces three counts of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder, and is being held without bail.
