Overview
- The 2025 Prix Liberté, awarded by over 10,000 young people from 84 countries, honors Gisèle Pelicot for her activism against sexual violence.
- The award, which includes a €25,000 prize, will be presented on June 3, 2025, at the Zénith de Caen in France, with 3,000 youth and 30 WWII veterans in attendance.
- Pelicot became a symbol of resistance against rape culture after her public trial in 2024, where 46 of 51 defendants were convicted of sexual violence against her.
- She is also recognized globally, having been named to Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025 and as a finalist for the Council of Europe’s Vigdis Prize.
- The other finalists for the Prix Liberté included the Belgian NGO War Affected People’s Association and Indonesian activist Melati Wijsen.
