Gjert Ingebrigtsen Faces Trial Over Domestic Abuse Allegations

The father and former coach of Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen pleads not guilty in a case involving alleged abuse spanning 14 years.

Gjert Ingebrigtsen is accused of physical violence, threats, and maltreatment against his son Jakob and daughter Ingrid between 2008 and 2022.
The trial began on March 24, 2025, in Sandnes District Court, with Gjert denying all charges and facing up to six years in prison if convicted.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen, fresh from winning two gold medals at the World Indoor Championships, is set to testify on March 25-26, 2025.
The allegations, first made public by Jakob and his brothers in a 2023 op-ed, have drawn significant attention due to the family's prominence in athletics and media.
The trial is expected to run until May 16, 2025, with testimony from family members and Gjert's current trainee, Jakob's rival Narve Gilje Nordas.
