GM and Samsung SDI Announce New Joint Venture for Major U.S. Battery Factory

GM and Samsung SDI plan to build a joint venture battery manufacturing plant in the US for over $3 billion dollars.
The location of the new factory has not yet been announced but it is expected to begin operations in 2026.
The factory will be jointly operated by GM and Samsung SDI and will have a capacity of over 30 gigawatt hours.
The new factory will significantly increase GM’s total US battery cell capacity as GM strives to sell only electric vehicles by 2030.
GM and LG Energy Solution will not move forward with a fourth US battery manufacturing plant.
