Google reported the issue at 11:30AM and stated that it had been resolved just after 2:00PM, but warned that older emails could take hours to be delivered.
Google suggested that Gmail users could retry sending any emails that had not gone through during the affected time frame.
Outage tracker Downdetector reported that at least 700 people experienced issues with Gmail.
Google is conducting an internal investigation of the incident and will publish an analysis in the near future.
