Google Assistant to Be Replaced by AI-Powered Gemini This Year

Google confirms plans to phase out Google Assistant on most devices, transitioning users to the more advanced Gemini platform.

Google announced that its AI assistant Gemini will fully replace Google Assistant on most mobile devices by the end of 2025.
Devices running Android 10 or later with at least 2GB of RAM will be upgraded to Gemini, while older devices will retain Google Assistant functionality for now.
In addition to phones, Gemini will roll out to tablets, cars, headphones, smartwatches, and other connected devices, with plans for home devices like speakers and TVs to follow.
Gemini offers advanced AI capabilities, including multimodal processing for text, images, audio, and video, as well as features like Deep Research and customizable assistant profiles called Gems.
Google has emphasized Gemini's expanded functionality, such as improved natural language understanding, offline capabilities, and personalized assistance through integration with apps like Gmail, Google Drive, and third-party platforms.
