Google Chrome on iOS Introduces Option to Move Address Bar to Bottom, Yet No Plans for Android Version Yet
New feature allows for easy thumb access to address bar on large screens; previously available in Safari since iOS 15 release.
- Google Chrome on iOS now enables users to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen, emulating a feature Safari has had since the release of iOS 15. This change comes in response to the difficulty of reaching the bar at the top of the screen on larger devices.
- The option to move the address bar is not set by default in the Chrome update. To access it, users should open Chrome, tap, and hold the address bar at the top and then choose to move it to the bottom.
- Surprisingly, Android users will not yet be able to use this feature in Google Chrome. Despite Google owning both Chrome and Android, the company has no immediate plans to bring this feature to Android.
- Another way to enable this feature, users can tap the three dots icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, select Settings > Address bar, and tap the Bottom option on this page.
- The address bar in Safari became easier to reach with the introduction of iOS 15, but switching between the two address bar positions required users to go through Settings, unlike Chrome's more straightforward method.
