Footage has emerged showing extensive damage to Gaza's oldest mosque, the Great Omari Mosque, with Hamas accusing the Israeli military of bombing the site.
Hamas officials have urged UNESCO to protect historic buildings in the besieged Palestinian territory, estimating that 104 mosques have been razed since the start of the Israeli assault on Gaza on October 7.
Israel Defense Forces launched its military operation in Gaza after a deadly Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which Israel says killed 1,200 people and took 240 hostage.
Hamas claims that Israel's retaliatory campaign has resulted in the death of more than 17,177 people, including about 7,000 children.
Israel has accused Hamas of using mosques, schools and other civilian infrastructure to hide its fighters.
