Hawaii Doctor Charged with Attempted Murder of Wife at Scenic Hiking Spot

Gerhardt Konig, a Maui anesthesiologist, faces $5 million bail after allegedly attacking his wife at the Pali Lookout in Oahu, leaving her critically injured.

Gerhardt Konig, 46, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly trying to push his wife, Arielle Konig, off a cliff and striking her with a rock during a hike on March 24, 2025.
The attack reportedly began after Arielle, 36, refused to take a photo with Konig; she remains hospitalized in critical condition with severe head and facial injuries.
Konig also allegedly attempted to stab his wife with syringes during the assault, though it is unclear if they contained any substances.
The Honolulu Police Department arrested Konig after a six-hour manhunt and brief foot chase near Pali Highway; his bail has been set at $5 million.
Konig, who has been suspended from his position at Maui Health, is expected to face legal proceedings as the investigation continues.
