Gerhardt Konig, 46, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly trying to push his wife, Arielle Konig, off a hiking trail and striking her with a rock.
The incident reportedly began after Arielle, 36, refused to take a photo with her husband during their hike at Pali Lookout in Oahu, Hawaii.
Arielle sustained critical head and facial injuries and remains hospitalized; law enforcement continues to investigate the case.
Konig fled the scene after the attack, prompting a six-hour manhunt before being arrested near Pali Highway following a brief foot chase.
Konig, a suspended Maui Health anesthesiologist, is being held on $5 million bail and is awaiting his first court appearance.
