Heather Mack Sentenced to 26 Years for Mother's Murder

Mack's former boyfriend remains imprisoned overseas, while her daughter is in the custody of a maternal cousin.

Heather Mack has been sentenced to 26 years in federal prison for the murder of her mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, during a trip to Bali nearly 10 years ago.
Mack pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to kill a U.S. national rather than face a second trial.
Mack's former boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, who was also involved in the murder, remains locked up overseas.
Mack's daughter, Stella, now 8, is in the custody of a maternal cousin of Mack’s — the daughter of von Wiese-Mack’s sister.
Prosecutors sought a $250,000 fine for Mack in addition to prison time, arguing that Mack still stood to profit from media deals as a result of her crime.
