Historic Apartment Building Partially Collapses in Iowa; Rescue Operations Ongoing

There were no confirmed deaths after a six-story apartment building in Davenport, Iowa partially collapsed, though the fate of some residents remained unknown.
Eight people were rescued from the building, and more than a dozen others were able to evacuate on their own.
The cause of the collapse was unknown, but work was being done on the exterior of the building and a gas leak and water damage were discovered inside.
The building was structurally unstable, leading officials to plan its demolition, though some protested that people could still be trapped inside.
A woman was rescued from inside the building more than 24 hours after the initial collapse, renewing hopes that more survivors could be found before demolition began.
