Homeowner Stabs, Kills Catalytic Converter Thief in California

A homeowner in South El Monte, California confronted and fatally stabbed one of four people attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the driveway.
The homeowner grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed one suspect while the others fled the scene.
Catalytic converter thefts have surged nationwide as thieves target the precious metals inside the car part.
The attempted theft and stabbing took place around 2:30 a.m. in South El Monte.
The homeowner has been detained for questioning as authorities investigate the fatal stabbing.
