House Democrats, part of a special committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), have requested an intelligence briefing on how international adversaries, particularly China, are exploiting political instability and dysfunction within the GOP to globally discredit democracy.
The absence of a House Speaker following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy has sparked national security concerns; Democrats fear that Chinese and other foreign players are spreading negative messaging in response to this chaos.
Democrats have identified specific areas they want to explore during the briefing, including the demographics targeted by these foreign efforts, the distribution of such messaging, and the alternatives to democratic governance being promoted.
