- The woman, who was pregnant and weighed just 70 pounds when found, managed to alert authorities using Carter's computer.
- Less than two months after the woman was rescued, the body of Catherine Roberts, 61, was found in the same house. Roberts had been living in the same converted garage where the pregnant woman had been held.
- Roberts died from alcoholic liver disease and hepatitis C, complicated by internal bleeding. Her death has not been ruled a homicide and is not being investigated in connection with the kidnapping case.
- Carter's attorney claims that the woman was in a consensual romantic relationship with Carter and they have a child together.
