Hudson’s Bay to Liquidate Most Stores as Court Approves Plan

Canada’s oldest company will begin liquidation on March 24, with six stores temporarily spared due to a surge in sales.

An Ontario court has authorized Hudson’s Bay Co. to commence liquidation of all but six of its locations starting March 24, 2025.
The six stores temporarily excluded from liquidation include flagship locations in Toronto and Montreal, following unexpected sales growth.
The liquidation process is expected to conclude by June 15, with stores vacated by June 30, unless restructuring agreements are reached quickly.
Over 9,300 jobs are at risk, and the company has paused its loyalty program, leaving millions of customers uncertain about their points.
The liquidation includes Hudson’s Bay stores, three Saks Fifth Avenue locations, and 13 Saks Off 5th stores across Canada.
