Çiğdem Uzunoğlu Named New Head of Grimme-Institut

The former gaming industry executive will take over leadership of the prestigious media institution starting January 2025.

Çiğdem Uzunoğlu, previously managing the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur, will assume the role of Grimme-Institut director at the beginning of 2025.
Uzunoğlu is recognized for her expertise in organizational development and digital transformation, which stakeholders hope will bring fresh perspectives to the institute.
The Grimme-Institut, known for awarding esteemed media prizes, faced financial challenges in 2024 but stabilized its budget through cost-cutting, staff sacrifices, and sponsorships.
Peter Wenzel, who served as interim director without additional pay, was praised for his efforts to ensure the institute’s operational stability.
The Grimme-Institut is funded primarily by North Rhine-Westphalia, which contributes 80% of its €3 million annual budget, alongside other institutional shareholders.
