The IDF granted CNN's Nic Robertson and his team access to a similar tunnel system nearby, providing a first-hand look at the conditions within these underground structures.
The tunnel under Khan Younis had extensive facilities, including bathrooms, and was located in the heart of a civilian area, with the entrance located in the residence of a Hamas terrorist.
Israel has reportedly destroyed the tunnel after completing its investigation, which revealed a central chamber where hostages were held and five barred prison cells.
Despite Israel's control of most of the territory in northern and southern Gaza, Hamas continues to operate through its extensive network of tunnels.
