Ifo Institute to Close Dresden Branch by 2027 Following Saxon Funding Cut

The Ifo Institute has confirmed that its Dresden branch will close by mid-2027 due to a funding withdrawal by the Saxon Ministry of Finance.
The Saxon government cited the need for overall budget savings as the reason for cutting financial support to the research institution.
Established in 1993, the Dresden branch has focused on economic and demographic research specific to Saxony and eastern Germany.
The branch employs 13 staff members and has been instrumental in monitoring the economic climate and providing policy insights for the region.
Despite constructive discussions with stakeholders, no sustainable solution was found to maintain the branch's operations, making the closure final.
