India Greenlights Execution Phase for Indigenous AMCA Stealth Fighter

The Rs 15,000-crore programme has entered its development phase with the ADA issuing an expression of interest involving public sector units alongside private firms under a competitive partnership model.

Overview

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the AMCA execution model on May 27, 2025, formally moving the project into its development phase.
  • The Aeronautical Development Agency has issued an expression of interest to select bidders under a public-private competitive framework.
  • The twin-engine design will feature advanced stealth capabilities, including an AESA radar, internal weapons bays and supercruise.
  • A first prototype is slated for rollout in 2028-29, with induction of seven squadrons into the Indian Air Force planned for 2034-35.
