Overview
- The Bhargavastra counter-drone system, designed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL), successfully underwent final trials on May 13, 2025, at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha.
- The system employs a two-layered hard-kill mechanism: unguided micro-rockets for swarm neutralisation within a 20-meter radius and guided micro-missiles for precision targeting up to 2.5 km.
- Equipped with advanced radar and EO/IR sensors, Bhargavastra can detect low radar cross-section drones from 6 to 10 km away and integrates seamlessly with India's existing network-centric warfare systems.
- The modular architecture allows for deployment in varied terrains, including high-altitude regions above 5,000 meters, and can incorporate soft-kill measures like jamming and spoofing.
- Bhargavastra's successful testing comes as tensions with Pakistan remain under observation following recent cross-border incidents, reinforcing India's air defence capabilities.
