Overview

• The Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), a National Centre of Excellence for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector, is now operational in Mumbai.
• Phase I of IICT is housed at the NFDC Building on Pedder Road, featuring advanced facilities like gaming labs, virtual production setups, immersive studios, and smart classrooms.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated ₹400 crore to the initiative, with the Maharashtra government providing 10 acres in Film City, Goregaon, for Phase II expansion.
• Global tech and media firms, including NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, and Adobe, have signed MoUs and Letters of Intent to support IICT with curriculum development, internships, and job placements.
• Discussions are underway with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to explore further collaboration, as part of efforts to position India as a global leader in media and entertainment.
