• 1.4% of men reported lifetime sexual violence, a rate four times lower than the 5.5% recorded among women.
• 82% of male victims were minors at the time of the assault, with half of cases occurring before age 14 and a third before age 10.
• Male perpetrators accounted for 83% of reported assaults and 43% of incidents took place within the victim’s family or close social network.
• Boys who attempted to report abuse in childhood were often ignored, though adult male survivors face less disbelief than women when they speak out.
• The findings are based on the 2015 Virage survey of over 15,000 women and 11,000 men conducted by Ined prior to the #MeToo movement.
