IOC Approves 25 Russian and Belarusian Athletes for Olympics Under Neutral Status

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will compete without national symbols after meeting strict vetting criteria.

  • 14 Russian and 11 Belarusian athletes have been cleared to participate in five sports.
  • The approved athletes cannot display their national flags, anthems, or colors.
  • A two-stage vetting process was used to ensure athletes had no ties to the military or support for the Ukraine invasion.
  • Notable athletes include defending Olympic champion Ivan Litvinovich and cyclist Aleksandr Vlasov.
  • Further approvals for athletes in other sports are expected in the coming days.
