IOC Recommends Boxing for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics After Governance Shakeup

The International Olympic Committee's executive board has proposed the sport's inclusion following provisional recognition of a new governing body, World Boxing.

The IOC's executive board has recommended adding boxing to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program, with a final vote by the full IOC session expected this week.
This development follows the IOC's provisional recognition of World Boxing as the sport's new governing body, replacing the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The IBA was stripped of its Olympic status in 2023 after failing to address governance, financial, and ethical issues, including disputes over athlete eligibility.
The IOC had managed boxing events at the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympics due to its suspension of the IBA in 2019.
If approved, this decision will secure boxing's place in the 2028 Games, providing clarity for athletes and national federations under World Boxing's oversight.
