IRS to Issue $1,400 Payments to 1 Million Eligible Taxpayers

The IRS is automatically sending payments to taxpayers who missed claiming the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit, with most checks arriving by late January 2025.

The payments are being sent automatically to those who filed 2021 tax returns but left the Recovery Rebate Credit field blank or entered $0 despite being eligible.
Eligibility is based on income thresholds from the 2021 tax year, with the full $1,400 available to individuals earning $75,000 or less and couples earning $150,000 or less.
Taxpayers who have not yet filed their 2021 returns can still qualify for the credit if they file by the April 15, 2025 deadline.
Payments will be delivered via direct deposit or paper check, with recipients also receiving a letter from the IRS confirming their eligibility and payment details.
