Former UFC champion Israel Adesanya has avoided a drunk-driving conviction in New Zealand, instead receiving a six-month driving ban and a fine of $1500.
Adesanya was found to have a blood alcohol level nearly double the legal limit when he was pulled over by police in Auckland in August 2023.
The MMA star's lawyer argued that a conviction could have negatively impacted Adesanya's career and potentially cost him six-figure sponsorship deals.
Adesanya, who pleaded guilty, was also ordered to enroll in a drunk-driving cessation program by the end of 2024.
Despite his legal troubles, Adesanya is speculated to return to the UFC ring soon, possibly for the UFC 300 anniversary card in April.
